I’m so excited to share this project with you as part of the Blossom Blog Hop. This blog hop was organized by some lovely ladies who are a part of the Stitching Stars Facebook group. I met this wonderful group of women last year when I attended the Sew Pro convention in Chicago. The Blossom Blog Hop marks our second blog hop and the theme this time is Blossom, interpreted however you choose. Not wanting to be too literal and sew something floral, I instead decided to make a bold party dress in a vibrant stretch knit from Mood Fabrics, perfect for our blossoming spring weather.
The colors on this fabric remind me of spring: the rich blue reminds me of summer skies and the pink makes me anxious for lovely spring flowers.
You probably recognize the sewing pattern. It’s McCalls 6886, everyone’s favorite easy dress pattern. I wanted to make a sexy mini dress without going overboard. Thus, I opted for long sleeves.
This dress was made entirely with my serger. I finished the neckline and hem using the narrow rolled hem technique on my serger.
The best part about a party dress with long sleeves is that you won’t get cold on chilly spring nights. Although the weather is comfortable during the day, temperatures can still drop to 40 or 50 degrees at night. I can go out with friends and leave my coat at home.
Social Media Tip: Share all of your projects on Instagram and try to tag as many companies as possible that are relevant to your project. For example, if I make a dress using Mood Fabrics, I will tag them in my post. By doing this, you may expand your audience and receive interesting offers. Recently, Organic Cotton Plus discovered my blog via social media and offered to gift me fabric in exchange for an honest review (new blog post coming soon!). I was thrilled to receive the offer and I believe savvy use of social media connected me with this opportunity.
