Happy New Year! I spent the holidays in Minneapolis with family and friends for three weeks. It was a much needed reprieve from the hustle and bustle of work. While there, I received some very thoughtful sewing related gifts, and I treated myself to yards and yards of new fabric from my all time favorite fabric warehouse, SR Harris. I cannot wait to start sewing my way through 2016. First, though, let me show you the goods!
First up is a camel wool coating. I plan to make a cape out of this. Burda has some great cape patterns. I’m considering going with this version:
I also treated myself to some new silks. I bought a couple of striped silks, and then a moody dark silk with golden flowers on the panels.
After browsing the silks, I picked up what I believe to be polyester chiffon.
I also found this fun Parisian cotton print from Michael Miller fabrics, and a floral cotton lawn that is very soft to the touch.
Lastly, I picked up this mixed fiber striped material that I think will make a cool blazer.
If you’ve never been to the SR Harris in Champlin/Brooklyn Park, MN, it’s a total maze and it might overwhelm you at first.
Nevertheless, it’s a fantastic place to shop for fabrics and I would compare it to Mood.
My family knows that I love to sew and this year I received some very thoughtful sewing related gifts. My aunt Diana, who taught me to sew, gifted me a few yards of this gorgeous vintage Japanese silk.
And my boyfriend’s mom designed sewing labels for me! She is having them made by a label maker. I can’t wait to start sewing the labels into my handmade garments. Here is what the design looks like:
I will share with you the final labels once the order comes in the mail.
I hope you all had a lovely holiday. Goodbye for now but before I go, let me share with you a picture of this adorable Pomeranian wearing a santa suit.
