The start of a new year called for a sewing room makeover. A year and a half ago, my boyfriend and I moved into a rental house. More rooms meant I could have my very own sewing room. However, I naively thought I could use the extra room as both a guest room space and a sewing work space. Unfortunately, the former set up was too crowded and did not leave enough room to work. I had one main table that I used for cutting, prepping, and sewing. See the before picture below.
The room was small to begin with and the guest bed was taking up too much needed space. So I decided to sell the guest bed and replace it with a cutting table. Here are the after pictures.
The sewing space is much more inviting now and I can actually work. My ironing board even got a makeover, too.
I picked up this cute ironing board cover from HomeGoods for $10.
The room still has some limitations. Primarily, the wood paneling. However, this is a rental so there’s not much I can do about that. Nevertheless, I think the makeover has much improved the space. It just goes to show that you can have a beautiful and inviting workspace even in a small room. I hope I’ve inspired fellow sewists to makeover their space. I’d love to see your workspace, too!
